Houston fans just watched their team do something at Wrigley Field that hasn't happened since 2011.
The Houston Astros swept the Chicago Cubs this afternoon with an 8-5 victory in Chicago. After going down 3-1 early, the bats finally woke up in the fifth inning. Cam Smith sparked a rally with a leadoff double, and Jeremy Peña dropped a bloop two-run single into the outfield. Christian Walker immediately followed that by launching a three-run homer off Shota Imanaga straight into the Wrigley bleachers. Jake Meyers and Nick Allen also added solo shots earlier in the game.
A Crucial Turning Point on the Space City Home Network
If you were watching the Space City Home Network broadcast back in Texas, that five-run fifth inning felt like a massive exhale. The team is sitting at 23-31 through 54 games. A three-game sweep on the road heading into Memorial Day gives the dugout some serious momentum.
Astros Pitching Shuts the Door
Starting pitcher Peter Lambert settled down after a rocky second inning, throwing three hitless frames before handing the ball to the bullpen. Nate Pearson eventually shut the door in the ninth to grab his first save of the year.
Sweeping the North Siders in their own historic park is rare territory for Houston. Back in 2011, the Astros were still playing in the National League Central and the roster looked entirely different.
Are you firing up the grill for Memorial Day tomorrow, and do you think this sweep is the turning point for the Astros' 2026 season?
